On September 9, Hapag-Lloyd officially announced that Anders Boenaes will become Chief Operating Officer (COO) starting October 1.

Anders Boenaes was born in 1974. He began his shipping career at Maersk in 1993. He joined Hapag-Lloyd in 2020 as Senior Executive Director, Network, responsible for Hapag-Lloyd's global liner network, container fleet, and global operations. 

Hapag-Lloyd said, "Anders Boenaes is a very good fit for the COO role, and we are pleased to have found an internal candidate who has a deep understanding of the business and the company." 

In addition, Hapag-Lloyd has decided to extend the contract of Dheeraj Bhatia, Chief Terminal and Infrastructure Officer (CTIO), until December 31, 2029. 

Dheeraj Bhatia was born in 1973. In January 2024, he was appointed as a member of Hapag-Lloyd's Executive Board and is also CEO of Hanseatic Global Terminals, a Hapag-Lloyd company. Karl Gernandt, Chairman of Hapag-Lloyd's Supervisory Board, said, "The Supervisory Board is confident that, with the appointment of the new Executive Committee, Hapag-Lloyd is well prepared to seize various opportunities while meeting future challenges." 

According to the latest Alphaliner data, among the world's top 100 liner companies by capacity, Hapag-Lloyd ranks 5th, operating 286 container ships with a total capacity of 2.396 million TEU, of which 134 are owned ships and 152 are chartered-in ships. In addition, Hapag-Lloyd has an orderbook of 64 newbuildings, totaling about 499,000 TEU.
