Yangzijiang cashes in US$308 million with sale of six newbuildings
Ren Yuanlin’s Yangzijiang Maritime Development has recently signed shipbuilding sales contracts for six newbuildings.
The six vessels comprise two 49,500 dwt medium-range (MR) tankers scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2027, and four 49,800 dwt newbuild MR tankers scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2028. The contracts have a total aggregate sales value of US$308 million.

Yangzijiang Maritime said it continues to advance its vessel monetisation strategy. To date, the group has signed sales contracts for a total of 18 newbuildings, with a total aggregate value of US$805 million. These sales contracts cover a 10-month period.
Yangzijiang’s newbuilding portfolio (including options) currently stands at 98 vessels. The newbuilding portfolio comprises 7 delivered newbuildings (one of which has been delivered to a buyer under a ship sale contract), 75 firm newbuildings under construction (12 of which have been resold, including one vessel delivered to a buyer under a ship sale contract), and 16 optional newbuildings.
Ren Yuanlin, Executive Chairman and CEO of Yangzijiang Maritime, said: “One of Yangzijiang Maritime’s unique value propositions is our ability to continuously identify attractive maritime investment opportunities, organise and create value through strategic asset ownership at favourable prices, and realise returns at opportune points in the shipping cycle.”
He added: “Our proactive asset monetisation strategy forms a virtuous cycle of value realisation through asset sales and the reinvestment of capital in newbuilding orders, enabling us to pursue further growth opportunities and create greater long-term value for shareholders.”
