+6 3,100 TEU container ships! South Korea’s KMTC and Huangpu Wenchong officially sign the contract
On October 26, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong and Korea Marine Transport Co., Ltd. (KMTC) officially signed a construction contract for six 3,100 TEU container ships in Guangzhou.
The contracted vessel type is the "Honghu"-class 3,100 TEU container ship independently developed and designed by Huangpu Wenchong. This vessel type has already won batch orders from multiple overseas customers. In this project, it has been further upgraded and optimized according to KMTC's operational requirements, making the vessel more economical and flexible, with broader and better applicability.

KMTC is one of South Korea's largest container shipping companies and has long focused on intra-Asia route transportation. Previously, the company's newbuilding projects were mainly placed with shipyards in South Korea. This signing is not only its first order placed with China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), but also its first newbuilding project at a Chinese shipyard, marking an important milestone. Choosing Huangpu Wenchong for its first order reflects its high recognition of Huangpu Wenchong's construction quality, technical development capabilities, and project performance reputation. This cooperation is both an important measure for KMTC to upgrade and expand its fleet and opens a new chapter for long-term cooperation between the two parties.
According to the latest Alphaliner data, among the world's top 100 liner companies by capacity, KMTC ranks 15th, operating 67 vessels, including 31 owned vessels and 36 chartered-in vessels, with total capacity reaching 173,000 TEU. In addition, KMTC has 10 newbuilding orders on order, with total capacity of 64,656 TEU.
